Pregs grew up with her family in Durban, but due to the Group Areas Act, they were forcibly removed. She became aware of poverty, inequality, injustice, and eventually became an active anti-apartheid activist in 1974 at just fourteen years old. She initiated the ‘Women’s Budget’, was a member of Natal Organisation of Women, founding member of SPEAK magazine, former African National Congress member, and helped establish first Worker’s College.
